Become a Program

Organizations identify their community need, then design and implement an AmeriCorps program that will leverage people power as a solution. They recruit, train, and manage individuals, called AmeriCorps members, to deliver those services. Successful proposals describe how AmeriCorps service positions are an appropriate strategy to meet a community need AND identify supports for AmeriCorps participants to develop their career or continue their education.

2026 AmeriCorps State and National Grants

There are no funding opportunities available at this time. The next cycle of grantmaking will begin with the release of the AmeriCorps State and National Notice of Funding Availability in mid-August 2025.

ServeRI invites nonprofit organizations, institutions of higher education, school districts, units of government, and Indian Tribes to apply for AmeriCorps Grants. Successful proposals will describe how AmeriCorps service positions are an appropriate strategy to meet a community need AND will provide a service-to-career or to-education pathway for the AmeriCorps participants.

AmeriCorps improves lives, strengthens communities, and fosters civic engagement through service and volunteering. The primary purpose of the funding is to plan and develop new opportunities for individuals, called AmeriCorps members, to perform community service at Rhode Island nonprofit organizations, schools, or government agencies. Members may receive a living allowance and other benefits while serving. Upon successful completion of their service, members earn a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award that they can use to pay for higher education expenses or apply to qualified student loans. AmeriCorps activities should bring people together to solve community challenges and support AmeriCorps members with pathways to employment and post-secondary education

System for Award Management

All applicants must register with the System for Award Management (SAM) at https://www.sam.gov/SAM/ and maintain an active SAM registration until the application process is complete. If an applicant is awarded a grant, it must maintain an active SAM registration throughout the life of the award. See the SAM Quick Guide for Grantees. 

Start now. ServeRI recommends potential applicants do not delay in finalizing a new registration or renewing an existing SAM registration. You are ineligible to receive a grant award, if you are not registered by May 15th.

National Direct Consultation

Technical Resources

National Direct Consultation requires multi-state (also known as national direct) applicants applying for competitive AmeriCorps funding to consult with the state or territorial service commission in the locations in which they are applying to place members. In order to streamline the consultation process, Rhode Island collaborates with other states in using the online form provided by America’s Service Commissions.
